Pet’s Companion Inn Website Reboot

We launched the first version of the Pet’s Companion Inn (PCI) website in 2015. It was a full WordPress setup, including a blog, custom-tailored forms, and more. It was the right fit for PCI’s needs then, and they had high hopes of showing regular proof of life via their new publishing platform.

A lot can change in nearly a decade. PCI’s business increased, but the staff size remained the same. They no longer had time on their plates for posting blog updates, and they needed faster page editing when prices or services changed. We agreed that moving to Squarespace was the right answer: It would allow them plenty of customization without all the site maintenance and updates of a WordPress site.

Content First

Before migrating content, we got a handle on what content could stay or go, what needed updating, and regrouped to plan out improved booking forms. Going into this project, we knew Squarespace’s forms were limited compared to our usual WordPress approach. In the case of PCI, that wasn’t a drawback. They simply needed a set of clear and straightforward booking request forms, and Squarespace’s tools got the job done.

Adding Polish with Design

While we didn’t plan for a brand refresh, we agreed to deploy a more up-to-date font set. The original site launched when few reliable web fonts existed, and we chose from the best options at the time. Today, there is a wealth of font options that work beautifully on the web. The new typography is clean and modern—just like the new site needed to be.

The original site was light on photography, which helps keep an audience engaged by illustrating the services offered. So, we added more images per page, a couple of galleries, and created page templates that made room for background image textures.

With the color palette and brand assets ready to go, the site came together quickly. PCI now has a website that fits their needs, and their customers can look forward to easy navigation and a smooth booking experience.
