Downtown Durham, Inc’s “The Map” A-Frame Sign
Downtown Durham, Inc. (DDI) recently tagged us in to design an A-frame sign to highlight attractions during CenterFest.
If you’re not local to Durham, CenterFest is an annual arts festival hosted by the Durham Arts Council. This year marks CenterFest’s 50th anniversary, and—as you can imagine—attendance was expected to be high.
DDI publishes an incredibly useful tool for anyone exploring the heart of downtown Durham, called The Map. You can grab a print copy while you’re downtown, or you can visit the interactive, online version from any device. It’s a handy, up-to-date resource for visitors—especially CenterFest attendees. Our task was to create a simplified version of The Map to highlight nine of downtown’s most iconic attractions.
So, we did just that, borrowing from The Map and DDI’s brand styles to create visual parity with the print and online versions. Since we knew this piece would be viewed outdoors by visitors on the move, we supplemented the map visual with brief content written with scanability in mind. It’s just enough to know what to expect once you scan the QR code.
The end result is a thoughtful and informative design that DDI can use for Centerfest and any other events.
